Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls - Is it worth the effort?

Kim was excited to visit Niagara Falls as she had experienced Iguacu Falls which is located on the border of Brazil and Argentina and is considered the largest Falls in the world. Norm was not as excited to visit as he thought it might just be a tourist trap and did we really want to spend our precious time with throngs of people? We are so happy that we made the decision to visit. I mean, we were so close to the Falls in our trek from Michigan to Vermont so “why not”? Norm was like a kid in a candy store while we were on the Maid of the Mist boat tour. He couldn’t get enough of it! So much so, Kim couldn’t keep up with him as he ran from one side of the boat to the other gathering video clips and being in complete awe! What fun!!!

Here are a few fun facts about Niagara Falls:
1. The film, Niagara: Miracles, Myths and Magic, currently being shown at the park was produced by an old friend of Norm’s, Kieth Merrill. We did not know this and it just made the film that much better for us!
2. Niagara Falls is the collective name for three water Falls that overlap the international borders of Canada and New York.
3. Approximately 90% of the fish that travel down Niagara Falls survive. It is believed that the white foam from the rushing waters acts like a cushion for the fish traveling down the waters.
4. About 28,000,000 (that’s 28 million!) liters of water travel down Niagara Falls every second.
5. The first person to ever go over the Falls was a courageous 63-year-old teacher. She traveled down the Falls in a barrel.
6. Parts of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed at Niagara Falls. Superman and Niagara starring Marilyn Monroe were also filmed here.

So, has this “wet your appetite” (see what I did there), to visit Niagara Falls? The written word and photos do not do it justice. You will just have to believe us and make a visit to this spectacular place!

We absolutely love getting out there and meeting new people. We encourage all of our Mountain Beaches friends to shop small, shop local and to always be on the lookout to give a helping hand to those in need!
