Terrified! …and Michigan - home sweet home
MICHIGAN -It’s been WAY TOO LONG!
This is Kim: My family is from Michigan. Both my parents were born in Michigan. My grandparents came through Canada and settled in Michigan. I have aunts, uncles and cousins in Michigan that I have not seen for years! It is interesting when you lose both parents how the connections to relatives that are far away seem to dissolve over the years. I knew when we were planning this trip that I NEEDED to spend some time in Michigan. It was an internal almost physical drive in me that brought us through Michigan.
When we crossed the state line into Michigan I had an overwhelming feeling that both of my parents, my grandmother and other relatives were sitting in the back seat of the truck. They were laughing (as is our custom when we all use to get together), visiting, and giving each other high-fives as we crossed the state line. It was surreal and very real all at the same time. I broke down into tears that were uncontrollable for quite awhile. And, sweet Norm just smiled, kept driving and held my hand as we continued on our way.
We stayed at my Uncle’s cabin in the Upper Peninsula (the UP) for five days and just enjoyed some quiet downtime. We did a little exploring but really just soaked up the vibe of the cabin. Due to health reasons he was not able to join us at the cabin, but we did get to visit with him and my cousin for a day after leaving the cabin. Cherished memories that I will never forget!
We absolutely love getting out there and meeting new people. We encourage all of our Mountain Beaches friends to shop small, shop local and to always be on the lookout to give a helping hand to those in need!
