Frequently asked questions

ALL ABOUT THE RV

WHAT IS THE MAKE AND MODEL OF YOUR RV?
We own a 2020 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS.

DID YOU PURCHASE YOUR RV NEW OR USED?
We purchased our rig new in August of 2019.

IF YOU COULD DO IT AGAIN, WOULD YOU BUY A GRAND DESIGN 5TH WHEEL?
Yes, we love our Grand Design! The quality is excellent.  We are fortunate and have not had any problems to date and so have not had to work with Grand Design for repairs.  We belong to many Grand Design Facebook groups and the overall consensus is that Grand Design is very customer friendly and works well with their customers to get repairs done.

WHAT INSURANCE DO YOU HAVE?
We use Farmers Insurance as we have used them for years for all of our vehicles and have a good track record with them.  It is important to shop around and find what works best for you.

DOES YOUR RV ALWAYS BREAK?
So far so good!  We have had small things go wrong but have been able to fix them ourselves or go to the Grand Design Facebook pages for help!

DO YOU UNHOOK WHEN YOU BOONDOCK FOR AN OVERNIGHT STAY?
Well, that completely depends on what kind of site we find and what our needs are that day.  If the site is level and we plan on staying in the rig and leaving early the next morning, then we will stay hooked up.  If the site is not level, we will unhook and get the rig level.  If we have errands to run, want to go out to dinner, need to do laundry, etc., then we will unhook.

ALL ABOUT THE TRUCK

WHY DID YOU PICK A FORD? DO YOU STILL LIKE IT?
We previously had two different Ram 2500’s.  We knew the Ram was borderline for the towing capacity we needed so we needed a new truck when we purchased the Reflection 303RLS and we were just ready to try a Ford.  One of the features we really love about the Ford is the 360 degree camera view.  It is amazing for backing into campsites to see those “hidden” rocks on the side.  We love our F350 and glad we got it.

WHAT ABOUT DEATH WOBBLE?
I experienced the Death Wobble once and only once thank goodness.  I took it to the Ford Dealer, and they “repaired” it.  Later I had an aftermarket stabilizer added on.  (Watch our Death Wobble Video)

WHAT KIND OF TIRES DO YOU HAVE ON THE TRUCK?
The truck came equipped with Michelin LTX A/T2 tires.

WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR CUSTOM MUDFLAPS?
The custom mudflaps came from Duraflap.  (Watch our Mudflap video)

DO YOU USE A TPMS?
Yes, we have the TST TPMS that we got from TechnoRV. It’s AWESOME! Take a LOOK

WHAT KIND OF TOOLBOX DO YOU HAVE?
The truck toolbox is from Tractor Supply.  It is a low-profile model.

WHAT KIND OF GPS DO YOU USE?
At first, we just used the GPS that came with the truck.  Why not, we already paid for it.  That is until it led us to a low bridge one day.  We now use the RV 890 that we got from TechnoRV and LOVE it! Check it out here

DO YOU HAVE A BACKUP CAMERA?
Not yet. Maybe someday! For now, Kim acts as our backup camera and we communicate via cell phone or walkie talkie.

MORE ABOUT NORM AND KIM

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR INCOME?
Norm is self-employed and can work remotely while on the road.  Kim recently retired and receives a small pension from her past employer.  As our YouTube channel grows, we are starting to see a small income from YouTube advertisers and our Amazon store.

WHERE ARE THE KIDS?
We have 4 children, and 13 grandchildren ranging in ages 3-16.  They all live in Northern Utah and we are lucky to have them close by when we return home to our sticks & bricks.

DO YOU MISS FAMILY AND FRIENDS?
Yes, we miss our family when we are traveling.  But we have looked forward to traveling and, in all reality, are living our “second childhood”!  This is one of the reasons we started our YouTube channel so that our family could see where we are and what adventures we are having.  We are hoping that we provide an example of living life to the fullest at this stage in our lives.  We make many friends along the way.  Travel allows us to see friends across the country that we would not otherwise be able to see.  There are definitely advantages and some disadvantages to traveling for prolonged periods of time.

HEALTHCARE ON THE ROAD
Kim carries the insurance from her past employer and we will both hit Medicare age in the next few years!
